From the LA woman who ended up with a “uniboob” after an ill-qualified surgeon left her breasts joined by skin, to Heidi Montag, who admitted to being unhappy with the results of her first 10 plastic surgery operations, cosmetic surgery has its ugly side. What’s more, new research has shown that a fifth of patients who go under the knife are unhappy with the results. According to the study, up to 20 percent of face lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction procedures, and breast implants don’t live up to patients’ expectations. Many patients have to undergo additional procedures in order to improve or repair the damage caused by “cowboy” practitioners.
The statistics were released by the independent website
TreatmentAdviser.com, which polled 2,500 site visitors about their experiences with cosmetic surgery. The site was founded by Katherine Griffiths, a former beauty editor who is now campaigning to increase transparency in the plastic surgery industry. Griffiths is calling for a ban of misleading advertising and for the tightening of industry regulations.
Although there are many qualified and trustworthy cosmetic surgeons in Seattle and Bellevue, a good number of women are unhappy with the results of their surgeries because of a handful of cowboy practitioners who are out to make a quick buck. These unscrupulous surgeons even administer simple treatments like Botox incorrectly, causing irreversible damage. Botched cosmetic surgery procedures can have detrimental effects, both on a physical and emotional level.
Despite the fact that many women are not satisfied with the results of cosmetic surgery procedures, the plastic surgery industry is healthier than ever. In the last decade, the number of cosmetic surgery procedures performed increased by a whopping 300 percent. However, 50 percent of the women who were surveyed by
TreatmentAdviser.com felt that they were pressured by sales techniques at cosmetic surgery clinics. Moreover, three-quarters of the women surveyed felt that they hadn’t done enough research about the surgeon’s background, qualifications, and client list before going under the knife.
If you’re thinking about undergoing plastic surgery, it’s important to do your homework. Fully research the cosmetic surgeon in Seattle or Bellevue that you’re considering. Even spending just a few extra minutes researching a surgeon’s background could prevent a costly, ineffective, or dangerous operation from taking place.
