Sclerotherapy is a common method of treating spider veins in the legs and ankles. During the treatment a scerosing solution is injected into the vein through a tiny needle. The solution replaces the blood in the vein, generating irritation and corrosion to the wall of the vessel. The body then initiates the natural healing process and the vein begins to dissolve, shrink, and eventually disappear. Treatment requires no anesthesia and can last from 15-45 minutes. After your treatment you may be instructed to wear support hose to help your legs heal.
