The Obagi "blue peel" is a chemically superior TCA peel that achieves optimum skin resurfacing. It works the best for pigmentation problems: skin discoloration, melasma, photo aging, or general poor skin quality. Layers of dead skin cells exfoliate and are replaced by new healthier ones allowing the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface. After the Blue Peel, skin may exhibit a slight blue tint, which fades within seven to ten days accompanied with the peeling of the skin. The procedure takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the number of peel coats applied. The Blue Peel is well tolerated by patients and rarely produces erythma or inflammation.
